The 3rd movie of its kind… This King Kong was directed by none other than Peter Jackson the man who brought The Lord of The Rings trilogy to life… The story starts off with a struggling actress, Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts), who does comedic theatre in New York and a washed-out movie director Carl Denham (Jack Black) who is on the verge of being fired… In a last effort ditch to save his career he decides to sail off to the mysterious Skull Island near Sumatra to complete his film… when his main actress quits on him Carl’s path crosses with Ann’s and he offers her the part… Having no money and no work she takes the opportunity to work in a Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody) film… But what the crew and cast did not know was that instead of going to Singapore to shoot the film as they were told they were heading for a different Island that no one has ever heard of… Even after the found out and the ship was about to turn back… they find themselves crashing into the walls of Skull Island… On that island they encounter the native tribe who captures Ann to sacrifice her to “Tora Kong” aka King Kong… The rest of the crew and cast goes after her but what they did not know was that Ann had captured the heart of King Kong and was protecting her… To get to Ann the cast and crew had to runaway from and fight off huge insects and dinosaurs that roam the jungles of Skull Island… When they finally found her, they found Kong as well… After managing to sedate him they brought him back to New York as an attraction… But in New York… Kong escapes during a show and starts to wreck havoc in the city until he found Ann… but by them the army was after him… and everyone knows what happened after that… Yes he climbs the Empire State Building… (even though in the 1st remake King Kong climbed the World Trade Towers)… Ann climbs the tower after him and tries to make the plane stop shooting at him but in the end he still died… “T’was beauty that killed the beast”…
This remake was really showing off 21st century cinematography… The movie could have done with a little less “spectacle”… The part where the guys were running away from the dinosaur stampede was a little long… and the fight between Kong and T-rex was a little long as well… and the part where the tribe’s people were doing the sacrifice was long as well… I thought the best part was at the end… classic… the part where Kong was being killed was a little long but it worked… good emotional connection between Ann and King Kong… All in all… it was memorable… worth watching for the experience but just too draggy and exaggerated…
